Procyanidins are a condensed tannin, and part of the category of Proanthocyanidins (PACs). The compounds are broken down into two major categories: A-type and B-type. A-type compounds contain two inter-flavan bonds between at least on set of the epicatechin/catechin sub-units. B-type compounds contain only a single inter-flavan bond between all sub-units.

Procyanidins are a popular natural antioxidant and have shown interesting pharmacological properties such as the insulin resistance inhibiting properties of the cinnamon PACs.
