History

Planta Analytica’s history goes back to 2002. Our founder, Dr. Jan Glinski, left his position in the pharmaceutical industry. He was disheartened by the industry’s susceptibility to chase trends and abandon its tradition of drug discovery from natural products. He recognized that the industry needed a stable place for organizations to get high quality support during their discovery efforts. Jan applied his background in natural products discovery to create a core suite of services that would provide solutions to many of the discovery bottlenecks.

Planta Analytica quickly established itself as the lab that could solve the most challenging problems. Our clients knew that they could toss any project at our team and get consistent, high-quality results. In addition to our service offerings, we began to build a catalog of unique and difficult-to-find natural products reference standards with purities that exceeded anything on the market.

Evolution

In 2006, Planta Analytica expanded into the agrochemical industry. We aimed to resolve the challenges experienced with regulatory requirements for naturally derived agrochemicals. Companies did not have the experience or internal capability to deal with these issues. Our expertise in natural products profiling, isolation, and elucidation helped companies bring their products to market efficiently and fulfill the evermore complicated regulatory requirements. Through our exclusive catalog of reference standards and in-house analytical expertise, we continue to support companies with their regulatory needs.

Planta Analytica’s expansion into the functional foods and flavors industries was in response to the market shift towards natural alternatives to their products. Around 2010, many companies wanted to learn what health benefits their products could offer. Our collaboration with The Hershey Company helped develop the understanding of antioxidants in cocoa, later becoming the basis of a major marketing campaign. During this time, Planta Analytica expanded two crucial technologies to further support natural products discovery. Our HTS platform helped companies screen for new natural flavors, while our method development platform helped companies develop food-safe manufacturing methods.
