Heraclenin – CAS 2880-49-1

Abstract

Heraclenin (CAS 2880-49-1) is a primary metabolite of Imperatorin, produced by demethylation and oxygenation.

Imperatorin, known as pentosalen, a plant secondary metabolite belonging to the coumarins—specifically, the furanocoumarins. It has been isolated from Angelica archangelica, Angelica dahurica, and Glehnia littoralis, as well as other species from the Apiaceae and Rutaceae families. Angelica a. is cultivated for its sweetly scented edible stems and roots. Traditionally, Imperatorin and Heraclenin have been utilized for a wide variety of ailments.  These include as an insect repellent, for sedation, for gastrointestinal diseases, for cardiovascular disorders, and for rheumatism. It has also been used in the treatment of malaria and diabetes.
