Hastatoside – CAS 50816-24-5

Hastatoside (CAS 50816-24-5) is an iridoid glycoside isolated from Vervain/Verbena (Verbena officinalis). Herbal tea made from Verbena has been utilized for the treatment of insomnia and other nervous conditions. The major iridoid components in Verbena are hastatoside and verbenalin. The major polyphenol component in Verbena is verbascoside. Research on the sleep-promoting activity of these three compounds indicated that both iridoid components are major sleep-promoting compounds of V. officinalis.

Hastatoside has been studied for its efficacy of inhibiting liver fibrosis. The findings suggest that it can bind to GSK-3β while inhibiting the GSK-3β downstream effector expression of β-catenin. This results in inhibiting of the activation and proliferation of HSCs, preventing the development of liver fibrosis. (Taotao Ma et. al.)
