Abstract
Ganoderma lucidum (reishi mushroom) has been traditionally used for increasing energy, improving immunity, and promoting health and longevity. Polysaccharides and triterpenoids are its two main types of compounds and considered to be responsible for its pharmacological activities. Ganoderic acids are the major components of the Ganoderma triterpenes. There are many of these acid monomers, including Ganoderic acid A, C1 C2, D, F, G, and DM.
Ganoderic acid C1 (CAS 95311-97-0) has been shown to lower blood pressure through inhibiting the angiotensin-converting enzyme. More research is being done into the potential of this compound to inhibit HIV-1 protease and reduce the proliferation of murine Lewis lung carcinoma cells.
