Abstract

Euphol succinate (CAS 3081355-96-3) is a succinate ester derivative of euphol, a natural tetracyclic triterpene alcohol. This modification is specifically designed to improve the water solubility of euphol (which is virtually insoluble in aqueous media), thereby enhancing bioavailability and making it more suitable for research applications and potential pharmaceutical development. Euphol serves as the main active compound in the milky sap of the medicinal plant Euphorbia tirucalli. Traditional healers have long used Euphorbia tirucalli to treat many conditions, including cancer, tumors, warts, asthma, cough, earache, nerve pain, rheumatism, and toothaches.

Euphol succinate shows several promising biological effects. It possesses anti-mutagenic, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties similar to those of its parent compound. Researchers have studied euphol and its derivatives extensively for their ability to fight inflammation and support the immune system. In cancer research, euphol regulates specific proteins that activate caspase-3. This process triggers mitochondrial dysfunction and leads to cancer cell death through apoptosis. Studies show that euphol selectively kills gastric cancer cells by modulating mitochondria-related apoptotic proteins. Euphol succinate demonstrates strong cytotoxic activity, including notable efficacy against triple-negative breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231 cell line), and exhibits potential against various other cancer cell lines. Scientists continue to investigate euphol succinate’s potential in tumor therapy. Its improved solubility combined with these unique mechanisms makes it an interesting candidate for further anticancer research.

Planta Analytica supplies high-purity euphol succinate as an analytical reference standard. This product supports accurate quantification and quality control in laboratories studying natural compounds, plant extracts, and their derivatives.
