Abstract

Chrysanthemic Acid (CAS 10453-89-1) is a monocarboxylic acid. It comes from the flowers of Dalmatian chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium).

Chrysanthemic acid forms the acid part of Group I pyrethrin esters. Pyrethric acid forms the acid part of Group II esters.

Pyrethrins are natural organic compounds extracted from the flowers of D. chrysanthemum. They act as a powerful, naturally occurring insecticide. Six individual compounds make up the natural pyrethrin mixture: Pyrethrin I, Cinerin I, Jasmolin I, Pyrethrin II, Cinerin II, and Jasmolin II. These compounds work together to kill insects effectively.

Chrysanthemic acid serves as an important reference standard for analyzing pyrethrins. Laboratories use it to test and measure pyrethrin content in botanical extracts and insecticide products.
