Abstract
Anacardic Acid C15:0 (CAS 16611-84-0) is the fully saturated phenolic lipid in the anacardic acid series. It is also catalogued as Ginkgolic Acid C15:0, hydroginkgolic acid, 6-pentadecylsalicylic acid, and 2-hydroxy-6-pentadecylbenzoic acid.
The compound occurs as a minor but chemically stable constituent of cashew nutshell liquid from Anacardium occidentale and related Anacardiaceae. Because the C15 side chain contains no double bonds, this analog is more oxidation-resistant than the 15:1, 15:2, and 15:3 homologs. That stability makes it a preferred calibration standard when extracts, hydrogenated CNSL fractions, or long-term storage samples must be quantified without isomerization artifacts.
Researchers use Anacardic Acid C15:0 as a reference inhibitor of histone acetyltransferases (p300/CBP and PCAF) and of SUMO-activating enzyme E1. The saturated alkyl chain still supports membrane interaction and modest antimicrobial activity, but published MIC values against Gram-positive organisms, including MRSA, are typically higher than those of the polyunsaturated anacardic acids. The molecule therefore serves as a structure–activity control when laboratories compare unsaturation-dependent potency.
In quality control, C15:0 is a discrete marker for standardization of cashew byproducts, ginkgo-related phenolic acids, and botanical intermediates. Accurate assay of this analog, together with its unsaturated counterparts, supports batch consistency for nutraceutical extracts, cosmetic actives, and chemical intermediates.
Planta Analytica supplies high-purity Anacardic Acid C15:0 reference standard for HPLC, LC-MS, and method-validation work.
