Desglucoruscin
CAS: 39491-37-7
CAT: 5091
Abstract
People have used Ruscus aculeatus L., commonly known as butcher’s broom, for centuries to treat many different ailments. In Europe, traditional healers used the rhizomes as a laxative and diuretic. In ancient Greece, people believed butcher’s broom could help remove kidney stones when mixed with wine.
Butcher’s broom contains strong pharmacological compounds. The most important active ingredients are steroid glycosides and saponins called ruscin and ruscoside. Their hydrolysis products include desglucoruscin (CAS 39491-37-7), desglucodesrhamnoruscin, and desglucoruscoside.
Researchers are currently studying desglucoruscin for its potential benefits. It shows promise in preventing and treating hemorrhoids and other vascular conditions. These conditions often involve swelling and inflammation of the veins. Butcher’s broom extracts help improve blood circulation and reduce swelling in the legs. Many people still use it today for vein-related issues and chronic venous insufficiency.
Planta Analytica supplies high-purity desglucoruscin (CAS 39491-37-7) as an analytical reference standard. This product helps laboratories accurately measure the active compounds in butcher’s broom extracts and herbal supplements.
