Oleandrin – CAS 465-16-7

Nerium oleander (oleander) is well-known for its biological activities. Nerium contains several toxic compounds, and it has historically been considered a poisonous plant. Oleandrin (CAS 465-16-7) is a lipid-soluble steroidal glycoside commonly isolated from N. oleander and is the major active component in this plant. Oleandrin demonstrates a wide spectrum of beneficial biological and pharmacological activities. It is used to treat various diseases, including congestive heart failure, abscesses, asthma, eczema, epilepsy, herpes, leprosy, malaria, ringworm, scabies, indigestion, strokes, and neurodegenerative diseases. Recent research has shown that oleandrin is also effective against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections.
