Deguelin – CAS 522-17-8

Abstract

Deguelin (CAS 522-17-8) is a derivative of rotenone. Both are compounds classified as rotenoids of the flavonoid family and are naturally occurring insecticides. They can be produced by extraction from several plant species belonging to three genera of the legume family, Fabaceae: Lonchocarpus, Derris, or Tephrosia. Deguelin has been studied for its possible anti-cancer activity. It has shown to inhibit growth of pre-cancerous and cancerous cells, primarily in lung cancer.

Deguelin has also been studied for it negative effects and possibility as a cause of Parkinson’s disease. There was no direct correlation with compound, however, there were more general indications of inflammatory effects related to overexposure to irritants.

For other common insecticides, see our other agrochemical reference standards.
