Abstract
Soyasapogenol A (CAS 508-01-0) is derived from soya bean (Glycine max). The compound belongs to the family of oleanane triterpenes. Amongst soyasapogenols, content of soyasapogenol B has been found to be higher as compared to soyasapogenol A. Soyasapogenol A has been reported to have biological functions in cell signaling, membrane integrity and stability and energy storage. It may also demonstrate hypo-cholesterolemic effects. Furthur research is being done into the anti cancer properties of soyasapogenol-A. It was found to be toxic to a variety of cancer cell lines leading to cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, inhibition of migration and metastasis.
