Neoruscogenin – CAS 17676-33-4

Neoruscogenin (CAS 17676-33-4) is a major component of extracts from Ruscus aculeatus L., also known as butcher’s broom, and has considerable pharmacological properties. These extracts are used in the prevention and in the treatment of hemorrhoids and other vascular conditions (swelling, inflammation, etc.). Saponins are divided into steroid and terpenoid glycosides. Upon hydrolysis, saponins yield aglycones and a sugar moiety. The algycone is known as a sapogenin and its structure determines the type of saponin it was. The major steroidal sapogenins within butcher’s broom, neoruscogenin and ruscogenin, are the secondary metabolites responsible for the aforementioned bioactivities.
