Euphol – CAS 514-47-6

Euphol (CAS 514-47-6) is a naturally occurring triterpene alcohol and it is the main constituent of the sap of the medicinal plant Euphorbia tirucalli L. that has various biological activities. Euphorbia tirucalli has been used as alternative medicine to treat cancer, excrescence, tumors, warts, asthma, cough, earache, neuralgia, rheumatism, and toothaches. Euphol can have anti-mutagenic, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects. It regulates protiens which activate caspase-3 leading to mitochondrial dysfunction and cancer cell apoptosis. More studies are continuing to suggest that euphol selectively causes apoptosis in gastric cancer cells by regulating mitochondria-related apoptotic proteins, which may be of value in tumor therapy.
