Abstract
Brucine (CAS 357-57-3) is a monoterpenoid indole alkaloid and an organic heteroheptacyclic compound. It appears as a white crystalline solid and is a natural product found in Strychnos axillaris, Strychnos ignatii, and other organisms. It is usually used as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic drug to relieve arthritis and traumatic pain.  Brucine is an alkaloid closely related to strychnine, and although less toxic, the narrow therapeutic window greatly limits its ability to be used in pharmacological applications. Brucine intoxication is uncommon as it occurs with strychnine but is significantly less toxic.
