27-Deoxyactein – CAS 264624-38-6

Abstract

Actein and 27-Deoxyactein (CAS 264624-38-6) are the major triterpene glycosides isolated from the roots and rhizomes of black cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa). Triterpene glycosides are found in many plant species, as well as some marine animals. Many of these compounds are physiologically active and possess a broad range of medico-biological action. Recent research indicates these triterpene glycosides may be an effective treatment for postmenopausal syndrome. Preclinical and clinical data have supported the CNS activity associated with the alleviation of post-menopausal symptoms. 27-Deoxyactein has also shown efficacy in treatment of osteoperosis.

Furthermore, C. racemosa has been traditionally exploited as an alternative therapy for the improvement of various disorders, including breast cancer and osteoporosis.
