Procyanidin B2-3″-O-gallate Reference Standard

Abstract

Procyanidin B2-3″-O-gallate is a B-type proanthocyanidin dimer isolated from grape seeds. It is a gallate ester obtained by the condensation of gallic acid and Procyanidin B2. It has a protective effect on PC12 cells, decreasing the damaged dopaminergic neurons and motor impairment in zebrafish, which may indicate a possible effect on Parkinson’s disease. Procyanidin B2-3″-O-gallate has also been identified in various studies to exhibit interesting properties such as; reduces oxidation and inhibits reactions caused by dioxygen or peroxides, causes the contraction of body tissues which is useful to reduce bleeding from minor abrasions, and it has been found to inhibit viral attachment and interfere with viral penetration.
