Abstract
Cinerin II (CAS 121-20-0) is one of the six pyrethrin esters derived from Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium (Dalmatian chrysanthemum). Pyrethrins are a naturally occurring, potent insecticide found in the flowers of the plant. The naturally occurring pyrethrins include Pyrethrin I, Cinerin I, Jasmolin I, Pyrethrin II, Cinerin II, and Jasmolin II. Pyrethrins are considered organic pesticides when they do not contain synthetic adjuvants. The six molecules only very by terminal alcohols and acids, however their activities differ significantly. Pyrethrin I, pyrethrin II and cinerin II have shown increased potency as inhibitors of channel deactivation than the remaining compounds. Electrophysiological measurements suggest that natural pyrethrins can readily engage closed sodium channels, unlike synthetic pyrethroids.
The market has shown favor for pyrethrins over organophosphates and organochlorides as the latter have displayed persistent toxic effects to humans. Pyrethrins are among the safest pesticides as they experience rapid degradation in the environment. As their use as insecticides in commercial applications has increased, so have reported cases of illness. However, the reported numbers are low, and the correlations are unclear in many cases.
Our collection of pyrethrin ester reference standards has been used to qualify commercial pyrethrin products globally. Please find our entire collection here. Please note, MOQ for all pyrethrin standards is 10 mg.
