Ciceritol – CAS 88167-26-4

Abstract

Ciceritol (CAS 88167-26-4) is a glycoside isolated from chickpea seeds (Cicer arietinum). Raffinose family oligosaccharides (RFOs) include raffinose, stachyose, verbascose, and ciceritol. RFOs are the second most commonly occurring carbohydrates found in higher plants. Research on Ciceritol and other oligosaccharides found in chickpea seeds is emergent, as many of the trisaccharides found in chickpea were unable to be successfully characterized prior to the advent of modern HPLC techniques. Preliminary studies have shown prebiotic properties, promoting beneficial gut microflora.
